Onda:

  • Encourages and facilitates relationships among performing arts professionals from all over the world, with a particular focus on supporting emerging artists based in the Global South and Eastern Europe, whether they produce hybrid or experiential works, on a small or large scale, across various disciplines and forms of expression.

  • Initiates spaces for discussion and reflection on issues of climate justice, mobility, diversity, solidarity, and new forms of governance.

  • Fosters alliances, through various partnerships and collaborations, to enable transformation:
              - L’Onda collaborates with a wide range of partners engaged in international issues and European cooperation across diverse contexts, both in France and internationally (institutional partners, cultural agencies, venues and festivals, networks, artists, producers, researchers, etc.), using a methodology that aims to be horizontal.
              - Furthermore, l’Onda promotes a contextualized approach to internationalization, which aims to integrate identification, programming, experimentation, and an understanding of contexts that are often unfamiliar. This involves connecting French and international cultural professionals.

SAUT

  • Facilitates the exchange of knowledge, practices, and strategic insights: for this aspect of exchange, Onda draws on an inclusive ecosystem—comprising various components (artistic practices, solidarity, the economy, citizenship, value chains, etc.), that includes professionals of all sizes and from all backgrounds. These exchanges and sharing take place through the “Encounters”, “Connecting artists and programmers” and “Working groups”. As well as the podcasts, articles, and new digital formats.

  • As a catalyst for sustainable change aimed at (re)imagining the performing arts on a European and non-European scale, Onda plays an active role in establishing new professional practices through reflection, the sharing of experiences, dialogue with “intermediary” and leading organizations in each European country, as well as alliances and collaborations within a European and transnational framework.

These international collaborations are essential in two ways. They inform and enrich our work in France; they enable us to situate and disseminate our work within a broader context.

Onda aims to contribute to transforming practices and modes of cooperation:

  • through theoretical contributions that inspire new perspectives and fuel reflection;
  • through an operational approach, by sharing experiences and proposing prototypes and tools grounded in the on-the-ground realities of professionals;
  • through advocacy, by participating in the development of European policies with the European Commission (where L’Onda’s expertise is recognized).

L'Onda, a hub and resource center to support performing arts organizations in the internationalization of their artistic programming

Onda offers a variety of support options tailored to the different needs, scales, and types of projects:

  • It advises French performing arts professionals seeking to expand their capacity to host international artists, as well as foreign artists seeking to increase their visibility in France;
  • It encourages and provides financial support to French venues and French festivals for tours by emerging or established international artists, with the aim of enhancing their visibility and facilitating the coordination of their visits. L’Onda is one of the few organizations in the world that supports venues and festivals in hosting foreign artists within a national territory;
  • It fosters connections between French and international professionals by regularly inviting international artists and/or industry professionals to Onda’s various networking events and encounters that are not specifically dedicated to international issues;
  • It develops expertise on artists and networks at the international level, which it shares with French professionals;
  • As an intermediary organization, it maintains close ties with its European partners and participates in the development of cultural policies at the European level;
  • It contributes to discussions on changes in the performing arts and fosters the emergence of new practices in an international context.

These missions are carried out in a complementary manner and often in partnership with the Institut français, under an agreement that defines the scope of each organization’s respective missions as well as areas of mutual synergy.
